Wife's Secret

A devoted couple, married for over sixty years, shared everything with each other, harboring no secrets except one. The wife had a shoebox in her closet that she had instructed her husband never to open. For years, the box was never a topic of discussion, yet the husband occasionally wondered about its contents. When the wife fell gravely ill, losing hope of recovery, she decided it was time to reveal the secret. She directed her husband to retrieve the box from her closet. Upon opening it, he discovered two crocheted dolls and a stack of money totaling $95,000. Intrigued by the contents, he asked his wife about it.

She said, "Before we got married, my grandmother shared that the secret to a happy marriage was to avoid arguments. If I ever became angry with you, I should remain silent and simply crochet a doll."

The old man felt relieved and joyful upon discovering only two crochet dolls in the box. The presence of just two dolls signified that his wife had been angry with him merely twice throughout their marriage.

Then he said, “Dear, that explains dolls but what about all the money in the box? Where did it come from?

“Oh”, she smiled and said, “That’s the money I made from selling all the other dolls.”
